How can I help my child be more successful in math?
-
Count every day. Count with your child in the car, before bed, when making dinner. The goal is for your child to be able to count to 100.
-
Have your child count objects. Have your child count their toys, veggies, books, and crayons. Make sure your child touches the object each time they say a number.
-
Do jumping jack breaks and count by 10s!
-
Practice writing numbers.
-
Point to numbers. Watching the Cubs? Point out the player's numbers. For example, Baez is number 9.
-
Introduce addition: If I have 1 cookie and give 1 more cookie, how many cookies do you have now?
-
Introduce subtraction: Here are 2 cookies. Eat 1. How many are left?
-
Discuss the following 2D shapes with your child: triangle, circle, square, rectangle and hexagon.
